  • Improving highways, creating jobs in central Alberta

    Government is getting nearly 500 Albertans back to work by funding maintenance to highways, bridges, pothole repairs and other safety measures throughout the Central Region of the province. 

    These projects are part of the $2 billion that government announced on April 9 in response to the COVID-19 recession.

    “Every region of the province has felt the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis and the collapse of energy prices. We are doing everything we can to get Albertans back to work, and these projects will create good jobs for central Albertans while improving driving conditions and ensuring our important transportation corridors are ready to support the region’s businesses and job creators, once the economy recovers.”

  • Building Industry Supports Ontario Government’s Decision To Allow Resumption Of Below-Grade Constructio

    The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) and the Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA) welcome the Government of Ontario’s decision to allow the resumption of below-grade construction under the COVID-19 Emergency Orders. Each step that is taken toward returning to normal construction activity allows the industry to meet the housing needs of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Ontario.

    “With almost two thirds of the new housing units delivered each year in the GTA being in high-rise buildings, the resumption of below-grade construction is absolutely vital to meeting the region’s housing needs,” said Dave Wilkes, President & CEO, BILD. “No work on a high-rise building can start without below-grade construction being completed.”

  • Terra CO2 Technologies Provides Corporate And Operational Update

    Terra CO2 Technologies Ltd. ("Terra"), a private company that is owned 57.8% by Strategic Metals Ltd. (TSXV:SMD) ("Strategic"), is pleased to announce recent corporate developments, expanded operations and important milestones. Terra is developing Alternative Cementitious Material ("ACM") as an environmentally-sensitive alternative to Portland cement. Terra's ACM research is in the field of geopolymer cement, also known as alkali-activated materials (AAM).

    Portland cement has been at the core of modern construction for generations and is nearly a $500 billion CAD business annually. However, the cement industry is a major CO2 emitter. Production and transportation of Portland cement account for 7 to 8% of annual CO2 emissions world-wide. Terra's ACM technology has potential to replace Portland Cement, thereby reducing CO2 output by 60% or more, without compromising strength or cost.
