Aug 15, 2025 - 10 months ago

Following an initial size launched with the constructor Spierings in summer 2024 (445/75 R 22.5), Michelin is launching a new tire size: MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 445/95 R 25.

This tire has been designed for mobile and all-terrain cranes, for use on- and off-road. Boasting over 10 years of expertise from Michelin specialists and industry leaders, it combines a civil engineering casing with a truck tire tread. In fact, Michelin has worked on multiple prototypes and performed cutting edge tests in order to arrive at this final version that is unique on the market.

This innovative tire is 5% lighter than its predecessor, the MICHELIN X-CRANE +. It allows vehicles to move faster while carrying heavier loads thanks to its new load and speed index, changing from 174F to 178F (an experimental standard filed with the ETRTO). MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 can carry 800 kg (17645 lbs.) more per tire when traveling at 80 kph (50 mph). This increased load capacity represents an additional load of 1.6 metric tons per axle.

MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 benefits from optimized braking performances for heightened safety. Multiple wet braking tests have actually been performed, and these show that, compared to the new MICHELIN X-CRANE 2, the main competitor has to brake 27% longer.

This MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 tire, which is M+S certified, also offers better control to avoid obstacles and accidents on both dry and wet ground, and even in the mud or snow.

The tread integrates the Michelin REGENION technology, which uses metal 3D printing to create self-regenerating treads. Thanks to this technology, the tread lifespan is improved, thus allowing for constant grip and performances throughout the life of the tire, regardless of the conditions. Lastly, this technology allows the MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 tire to reduce fuel consumption by over 13%, i.e., a saving of approximately 826 liters (218 US gal.) of fuel and EUR 1,321.60 for a crane traveling 10,000 km (6214 miles).

The new MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 2 445/95 R 25 size if homologated for numerous machines on the both the European and American market:

  • LTM, LTC, and LG from Liebherr
  • GMK from Grove
  • AC from Tadano
  • AT models from Linkbelt for the US market.
