Day of Mourning BC Set For April 28

Apr 22, 2019 - 6 years ago

Across Canada, April 28 has been designated the Day of Mourning. It’s a time when workers, families, employers, and others come together and remember those who have lost their lives to work-related incidents or occupational diseases.

When unsafe working conditions are ignored or safe practices are minimized, people can get hurt, get sick, or tragically, they can die.

Day of Mourning is a day to reflect and honour the memory of those who lost their lives on the job, as well as an opportunity to talk to each other and renew our commitment to workplace safety.

We all have a responsibility to keep our workplace safe year-round and to make sure everyone goes home safe and healthy at the end of the day. Let’s all take a stand for safety. So, the next time you see an unsafe situation, don’t ignore it. Report any hazards to your supervisor or employer and follow established safe work procedures.

If we all commit to building a culture where safety and health is the priority, and we are all encouraged to make a contribution, we can make fatalities and workplace incidents a thing of the past.
