OHMPA’s Fall Seminar To Feature Sustainable Innovations In Asphalt

The Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association (OHMPA) has announced the speaker line up for its 2013 Fall Asphalt Seminar.

Taking place December 11 at the Le Jardin Conference Centre in Vaughan, Ontario, the seminar, themed Asphalt – Paving the Way for Ontario’s Future, will feature the latest sustainable innovations in asphalt technology.

Dr. Richard Willis, lead researcher for the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) will share the latest results from Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) studies from the NCAT test track, which at 2.7 km long is the largest in the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, Dr. Susan Tighe, Director of the Centre for Pavement and Transportation Technology (CPATT) at the University of Waterloo, will provide results from CPATT’s testing of RAP and how this may influence road owners. According to recent research, RAP and WMA can stand up to heavy traffic and makes environmental sense.

Other seminar highlights include a presentation from MTO’s Manager of Materials Engineering and Research Becca Lane. She will give a live demonstration of iCorridor, which is a web site for data visualization and information sharing on core planning and transportation data. And, MTO Senior Bituminous Engineer Seyed Tabib and Fowler Construction Divisional Manager Tim Fawcett will present on how 58,000 tonnes of WMA was successfully used in Whitney, Ontario.
