“With a history of innovating street sweepers for more than 100 years, the Elgin Sweeper team was excited to work with CPAC Systems to create a 360 camera system specifically for street sweeping,” said Chad Schiele, Elgin Sweeper Product Manager. “The bottom line is that jobsites are busy, roadways are full of obstacles and blind spots cause incidents which cost time and money. Enhancing visibility helps operators and in turn contractors and municipalities.”

The CPAC Systems 360 Camera Solution is a full high-definition digital visual system that provides one adapted view utilizing four cameras around the street sweeper. These cameras are equipped with heaters, so cold weather and ice don’t limit visibility.

Adapted for the job at hand including at street sweeping’s low speeds, these four cameras also feature radar augmentation and automatic view transitions for increased visibility and operator ease. For enhanced intuitiveness, the CPAC System on Elgin Sweeper provides a 3D view. To adjust the viewing angle, an operator simply has to swipe their finger for an updated angle.

Lane changes are also simplified with the CPAC Systems 360 Camera Solution on Elgin Sweeper. An adapted view at cruising speed assists with lane change decisions. The view automatically transitions when the turn signal is indicated or gears shift. This feature is user customizable.

“We’re helping sweeper operators by simplifying jobs. Better visibility means more ability to maneuver in tight corridors and navigate around obstacles. That helps eliminate some of the stress from jobs – especially those on busy work sites or in urban areas. That means fewer corrections and less time working around obstacles, which speeds up jobs,” said Schiele.

“Our joint efforts with Elgin Sweeper allowed us to develop and provide tailored features for sweepers, relevant and asked-for by the operators and fleet managers. Working with our customers to understand their practical challenges on the job is at the heart of our know-how,” said Jean-Adrien Develet, Head of Sales Americas at CPAC Systems.

Situational awareness is also increased with automatic warnings triggered by radar sensors. A high frequency radar helps detect objects. This covers the rear, left and right sides of the vehicle. True obstacles are warned against because static objects are accounted for and removed from the system’s warning metrics.
