From The Supply Post Archives Liehberr Joins Vancouver Equipment Liebherr is one of the largest hydraulic excavator manufacturers with over 10,000 machines working throughout the world. Plants are located in West Germany, France and the United States.

Lloyd Otto, President of Vancouver Equipment, anticipates that the Liebherr line will have a great impact on the West Coast markets. Sizes range from 3/8 to 2 ½ cubic yards. These units can also be converted to log loaders. Otto noted that European-designed heavy-duty high-pressure hydraulics are technically very advanced.

Liebherr’s unique design features coupled with competitive pricing result in economical, durable and versatile equipment. Only Liebherr incorporates a hydraulic system that self-regulates to match any load demand to job conditions without adding strain on the engine. This means faster cycle times, greater digging capabilities, higher lifting capacity, less engine wear and greater fuel economy than with conventional systems.

The truck frame is one piece welded steel construction with ample ground clearance. Machines use a crawler tractor-type undercarriage. Four holes in the boom allow this attachment to be extended or retracted. The lower part of the boom is part of the basic frame so that you can match digging depth and dump height to specific job requirements by using different adjustments with the same boom foot. There are different stick sizes, bucket sizes, bucket types and attachments to suit various job conditions.

Advanced design also allows for operating ease. All digging functions are performed through twin “joy stick” control levers which provide the ultimate in easy, precise operation. The operators steel cab is sealed and set well forward away from the main machinery. Cabs are rubber mounted with insulated walls and safety glass. An adjustable shock-absorbing padded seat adds to the operators’ comfort. The all-round windows give the operators complete 360-degrees of visibility.

A hydraulic final drive, simple two lever digging control and a high pressure, variable-flow hydraulic system gives the machine more powerful digging in the cut, faster swing and dump cycles than any other machine of similar size. Hydraulic systems are high-pressure, piston-type pumps with variable delivery. Maximum pressure is 4,000 PSI. The hydraulic tank is pressurized to prevent dirt from entering the system. Each circuit is protected by a primary and secondary pressure relief valve. Hydraulic rams are double acting, with self-aligning bearings. Piston rods are one piece — forged and chrome plated with Teflon seals.

Sales and service for Liebherr equipment will be provided by Vancouver Equipment’s facilities located in Vancouver, Prince George and Cranbrook.
