18th Annual Port Fundraising Gala Raises $240,000 For Local Charities

Nov 15, 2017 - 7 years ago

On October 4, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority hosted the annual Port Fundraising Gala in partnership with Global Container Terminals, Fraser Surrey Docks, Western Stevedoring, and DP World Vancouver.

This year marked the 18th year for the Port Fundraising Gala, an event that brings together port terminals, suppliers and others to help raise awareness and funds for important community organizations.

“This annual gala always has a special quality to it – drawing together port stakeholders for a common cause,” said Robin Silvester, president and chief executive officer at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. “As proud representatives of the port community, we want to help local communities thrive and flourish. The Port Fundraising Gala is just one way we try to do that.”

The event was held in honour and support of three charitable organizations: Harvest Project on the North Shore, Mission Possible in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and Reach Child and Youth Development Society south of the Fraser River. Through ticket purchases, the sale of auction items, and the generous contributions of attendees, this year’s event raised $240,000 in support of these worthwhile organizations that are working hard to improve the lives of thousands of people each year.

“Since the first Port Fundraising Gala in 1999, we’ve raised more than $1.9 million through this annual event for organizations that do extraordinary work in our port city,” continued Silvester. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of the organizers, attendees and contributors who made this year’s event another huge success.”
