  • Gehl Foundation Announces 2019 Scholarship Recipients Anna Kiskunas And Andrew Loehr Awarded $20,000 Scholarships

The Gehl Foundation awarded two $20,000 collegiate scholarships for students beginning in the fall of 2019. Anna Kiskunas, daughter of Manitou Group employee Steve Kiskunas, and Andrew Loehr, son of Manitou Group employee Thomas Loehr, are the recipients of the scholarships for 2019. Since 1966, the Gehl Foundation has selected outstanding high school students as recipients of this scholarship; the chosen students being children of Manitou Group employees in North America.

Kiskunas recently graduated from Cedar Grove-Belgium High School where she was a member of the National Honour Society and band, taking first place at Solo Ensemble. Outside of her academic accomplishments, Kiskunas volunteered with the American Legion Auxiliary and participated in 4-H. In the fall, Kiskunas will be attending the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee to pursue a degree in marketing. “I want to make the marketing field more positive and beneficial,” said Kiskunas. “This scholarship will give me the opportunity to accomplish my dreams and lead me on the path to be a successful businesswoman.”

  • 298 Series 2 Shipbuilding On Whidbey Island Of Puget Sound

Ice Flow LLC dba Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) of Freeland, Washington new 250-ton (227-mt) 298 Series 2 lattice crawler was put to the test quickly, following its delivery to Whidbey Island in Puget Sound from Triad Machinery.

NBBB is a custom vessel construction company established in 1964. The first major project on the books for their Link-Belt 298 Series 2 was lifting a 125,000 lb. (56 700 kg) pilot house for a new 100 ft. (30.4 m) x 40 ft. (12.1 m) hybrid tractor tug scheduled for early 2019 delivery to Baydelta Marine of San Francisco, CA. The pilot house was lifted 47 ft. (14.3 m) in the air and placed on the main module or hull of the tug.
For Operator Supervisor Kyle Statia and the team at NBBB, on-time delivery of a 100 ft. (30.4 m) long tug requires maneuvering in a tight shipyard environment and safely providing all necessary components for construction. Portable containments which measure up to 85 ft. (25.9 m) long by 50 ft. (15.2 m) wide are constantly moved around during all phases of the construction process.

  • Mack Trucks Builds 100,000th Truck With Mack Guarddog Connect

Mack Trucks reached a significant milestone in its connected truck journey by building the 100,000th truck equipped with its Mack GuardDog Connect integrated telematics solution. Mack GuardDog Connect, which was first launched in 2014, is a proactive diagnostic and repair planning solution that monitors a truck’s critical fault codes that could lead to unplanned downtime, and is also the enabling technology for Mack Over The Air remote software and parameter updates.

“From its launch with truck number one to now reaching 100,000 trucks, Mack GuardDog Connect has proven itself to be an incredible tool to protect and maximize our customers’ uptime,” said Jonathan Randall, Mack Trucks senior vice president, North American sales and marketing. “We’re proud to have reached this milestone and look forward to continuing to build on our uptime leadership with GuardDog Connect.”

Unplanned downtime events result in lost productivity, which can be one of the most significant costs heavy-duty trucking customers face. To help reduce unplanned downtime, Mack GuardDog Connect proactively monitors a truck’s critical fault codes that could lead to unplanned de-rate or shut down situations.
