Drivers may experience delays as a large, slow-moving load moves west from Lloydminster to Fort Saskatchewan starting Dec. 9.

Super-Heavy Load Affects Travel In Northeast Alberta Dec 9-10


Due to its large size and weight, this load will travel at a maximum speed of 60 km/h. The load will move with guide vehicles, below posted speed limits using the entire width of the highway including the shoulder. 

Route

The load will leave Foremost in north Lloydminster using the following route:

Day 1 Dec. 9 (depart 7 a.m. day move)

  • Exit from 5207 67 Street Lloydminster
  • 67 Street westbound
  • Township Road 502 westbound
  • Range Road 14 southbound
  • Highway 16 westbound
  • Highway 36 southbound
  • Highway 14 westbound
  • Highway 834 northbound
  • Highway 15 westbound (park at Lamont wide spot)

Day 2 Dec. 10 (depart at 9 a.m. day move)

  • Highway 15 westbound
  • Range Road 220 northbound
  • west into site (DOW)

  • The load being transported is an acetylene hydrogenation reactor used to purify ethylene streams in the petrochemical industry.
  • The reactor is 6.4 metres wide, 8.3 metres high, and 60.4 metres long.
  • The weight of the unit is 427,170 kilograms, including support equipment.
  • The trailers carrying the unit contain 256 wheels.
