  • Canadian Freightways’ John Beeler Named Canada’s Truck Driver Of The Year

    Heinz Alvin (John) Beeler, a professional truck driver with Canadian Freightways Ltd., was named the 2010 Canadian Trucking Alliance/Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year at the annual Christmas Party of the British Columbia Trucking Association (BCTA) on December 2, 2010. John was chosen to receive this honour for his demonstrated dedication to safety and impressive collision-free driving career, spanning over 36 years and almost 5 million kilometers.

  • Increased Torque, Horsepower Boost Performance On New High Flow Bobcat Planer Attachments

    New Bobcat 18- and 24-inch wide planer attachments offer increased torque and horsepower for improved performance compared with the models they replace. The new planers are compatible with all current high flow Bobcat loaders, including the new S850 skid-steer and T870 compact track loaders. The cutting drums on Bobcat planers can be unlocked to allow oscillation up to 15 degrees in either direction. As a result, surface tracking is optimized even when the loader is operating on a rutted or potholed surface. This feature is unique to Bobcat planers and provides continuous cutting depth without constant operator input.

  • 2010 Leadership In Safety Awards Winners Selected

    The 2010 Leadership in Safety awards were presented at the Vancouver Island Safety Conference on October 2 in Nanaimo, BC, recognizing this year’s safety leaders in British Columbia’s forest industry. Numerous nominations were received from all regions of the province and ultimately the field was narrowed down to four very worthy recipients. As always, the nominations told compelling stories of safety leadership and dedication that made – and continues to make a difference. The Council wishes to thank Patrick Bell, Minister of Forests and Range and Jim McCaskill, WorkSafeBC Regional Director for Vancouver island for co-presenting the awards.     Delphi Automotive demonstrated its Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) auxiliary power unit (APU) to the public for the first time during the recent Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF) in Dearborn, Mich. While at the forum the SOFC, utilizing diesel fuel from the truck's main tank, generated electricity to power equipment in the truck's cab, including air conditioning, television, refrigerator and microwave.

  • Kligerman, Bandit Close NASCAR Nationwide Season With Strong Finish At Homestead

    After qualifying 23rd for the Ford 300 Nationwide Series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Parker Kligerman and Team 42 Racing took the Bandit Industries/GetMoreVacations.com Dodge Charger to a strong 13th finish in a race dominated by caution flags. "We ran basically seventh . . . and one crucial bad pit stop ruined our night," said Kligerman on his Twitter account. "No harm though, nice recovery to 13th and a fitting end to 2010." The racing stayed tight and competitive throughout the evening thanks to no less than 11 caution flags. Pit strategy became crucial as teams gambled on fuel mileage and tire choices; Team 42 was positioned to move even further up the field when a minor mistake during a late race stop sent the team from eighth to 21st position.
