The system consists of four main components: a Control unit with a dual 400V – 32A or 64A three-phase power supply; a Three-phase asynchronous electric motor; a Hydraulic pump, which handles all the machine’s movements; and a 50-metre power cable for connecting to the electric grid.

This configuration is available for both the ROTO S and ROTO SPLUS models, allowing for operation in fully electric mode while maintaining the same efficiency and safety standards as the Merlo range.

Motor configurations

There are two three-phase power supply options, offering different amperage and power consumption levels: 400V – 32A, with a power consumption of about 15 kW, and 400V – 64A, with a power consumption of about 22 kW. Both solutions include a 50-metre cable to ensure maximum operational flexibility. The installed electric motor has the following technical specifications: power output: 22 kW; speed 1460 RPM; power consumption: 38.8 A at 400V; torque: 144 Nm; power supply: 32/64A.

Hydraulic performance

The variable displacement hydraulic pump provides a flow rate of 70 l/min, and is connected to the machine’s hydraulic circuit. It allows the following movements to be performed: extension, retraction, lifting and lowering of the boom; levelling carriage rotation; stabiliser operation; auxiliary attachment movements; and turret rotation.

Available functions

In electric mode, all standard machine functions are operational, except for forward and reverse travel, which continue to be provided by the combustion engine.

The machine can be operated from the cab, from an aerial work platform, or using the new radio control, which will be available starting next year. Depending on the work location, in order to allow the vehicle to circulate on public roadways the electric motor may need to be removed from the chassis. This procedure can be performed directly, with no need for external aids.

The ROTO range includes rotating telehandlers with a turret capable of turning 360°, variable load capacities beyond 7 tons, and lifting heights of up to 35 meters. These models are designed for a wide range of uses, from construction and industrial applications to municipal services, and are notable for their excellent technological performance and guaranteed operator safety.

The hybrid “Plug-In” version increases the potential of these Merlo best sellers, and can be used in a wide range of operating contexts, including indoors and confined spaces, such as greenhouses, livestock farms and food processing plants, where emissions and noise must be minimized to ensure the safety and comfort of the operators and animals.

There are also numerous logistics and industrial applications where the maneuverability and versatility of an electric telehandler can allow for delicate tasks to be performed in areas where emissions are strictly regulated.
Operating the telehandler in electric mode is particularly advantageous wherever power and sustainability are absolute priorities.

With Merlo's ROTO Plug-In hybrid version, the company reaffirms its role as a global leader in the design and production of technologically advanced work vehicles that combine high performance, versatility and environmental sustainability, for a greener and more efficient tomorrow.
