December 2025 Canadian Equipment Market Insights

Jan 8, 2026 - 6 months ago

As the holiday season unfolded, December brought the expected seasonal slowdown to the Canadian equipment market. The general search activity declined as operators and businesses are taking their well-deserved seasonal break and gearing up for the new year.

Despite the overall slowing in activity, there were some intriguing patterns in December with certain regions opposing the downward trend and specific equipment categories maintaining their positive momentum, signalling what may be ahead for 2026.

Regional Breakdown

Most Canadian provinces experienced a slight drop in traffic following the typical seasonal pattern as businesses closed for the holidays. However, Newfoundland stood out as an exception to the trend with a surprising 38.3% increase in activity, going against the nationwide slowdown.

Industry Overview

The response to the seasonal slowdown varied widely across different sectors. Construction equipment bounces back with a 24.25% increase in search activity after declining in October and November, suggesting early 2026 planning. Meanwhile, the forestry industry and aggregates & mining are showing the opposite trend: after a surge in activity during November, both sectors pulled back to their October levels in December, returning to normalized activity levels.

Equipment Types

Parts and Maintenance Take Center Stage

As operators focused on maintenance and repairs during the slow season, the interest in equipment parts increased significantly, with search activity rising by 54.48% and views rising by 33.49%.

Dozers Maintain Momentum

Dozers continue their growth trajectory that started in November, demonstrating an impressive 91.7% increase in search inquiries and 13.51% in listing views. The sustained demand for the equipment persisted despite the seasonal slowdown.

Looking Ahead to 2026

December's holiday slowdown was expected and healthy for the market. The quiet period allows operators to recharge and prepare for the year ahead. The counter-seasonal growth in the construction sector, continued dozers demand, and increased interest in parts suggest active preparations for the new year and a strong start to 2026. As we enter January, expect market activity to pick up as operators start executing their equipment plans.
