Drivers travelling between Tofield and Lloydminster may experience delays as two large, slow-moving loads move east on Jan. 12 and 15.

On both days, two loads will leave at the same time and travel together until they reach their destination in Lloydminster. The loads will be escorted with guide vehicles, below posted speed limits using the entire width of the highway including shoulder. Due to their large size and weight, they will travel at a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

Route

The loads will leave Dacro in Tofield using the following route:

  • First move – Jan. 12 (depart at 9 a.m. day move)
  • Exit from 6204 46 Avenue, Tofield
  • Airport Road eastbound
  • 46 Avenue southbound
  • Highway 14 eastbound
  • Highway 36 northbound
  • Highway 16 eastbound
  • Range Road 14 southbound
  • Township Road 494 eastbound
  • Upgrader Road northbound
  • East into site (Husky) (2 p.m.)

Second move – Jan. 15 – (9 a.m. day move)

  • Exit from 6204 46 Avenue, Tofield
  • Airport Road eastbound
  • 46 Avenue southbound
  • Highway 14 eastbound
  • Highway 36 northbound
  • Highway 16 eastbound
  • Range Road 14 southbound
  • Township Road 494 eastbound
  • Upgrader Road northbound
  • East into site (Husky) (2 p.m.)

Quick facts

  • The loads being transported are coke drum shells used to upgrade heavy crude into valuable products like gasoline and diesel.
  • Each drum shell is 7.4 metres wide, nine metres high, and 52 metres long.
  • The weight of each unit is 222,600 kilograms, including support equipment.
  • The trailers carrying the units contain 144 wheels.
