Bauma, Bauma, Bauma!

Apr 24, 2025 - 4 months ago

Ever been to Bauma in Munich, Germany? Congratulations if you have; what I say below won’t be news to you. For those who haven’t, you simply MUST put it on your list of things to do.

It’s just you and 600,000 of your closest friends in a celebration of construction and mining! From the PC7000 mining shovel to autonomous vehicles to attachments, Bauma offers an overwhelming number of products from around the world.

As an example, Liebherr’s booth was roughly 150,000 sq ft (20% larger than Tradex Abbotsford) and housed over 70 machines from their new autonomous wheel loader to their largest crawler cranes. Their tradeshow building was constructed over several months and housed upwards of 2,000 employees during the event.

The show spanned 7 days and included over 6.6 million sq ft of display space: 2M sq ft inside of 18 individual buildings and 4.6M sq ft of outside.

With over 3600 exhibitors from 57 countries, nothing was missing; parts, tracking technology, attachments, major components, all the way to whole machines — diesel, electric, hydrogen and many autonomous vehicles. I offer you a quick glimpse of the show in the following places: Photos on page 6 & 9 of this issue, and please check out our Supply Post LinkedIn page for a timelapse video of both the inside and outside displays.

My trip was 12 days in total and included a stop at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, a Bundesliga soccer game in Augsburg (vs. rival Bayern Munich) and a day trip to visit our friends at the Hydrema factory in Weimar — please see my article in page 11 for the highlights. Munich itself is spectacular with its gothic architecture set amongst modern amenities, so do yourself a favour and book a trip to visit Bauma, April 3-9, 2028 bauma.de/en/.

Back at home, this is our annual Forestry Super Issue. It’s full of stories and news from across the industry. New technologies, job stories and more. While the industry is struggling in certain regions, it’s always been resilient and will always bounce back. We will be in attendance at both the ILA in Kamloops and the CNRE in Prince George, we hope to see you there.
