January 2026 Equipment Market Insights

Feb 6, 2026 - 4 months ago

Introduction

Canada’s heavy equipment market is making a strong return in January, as operators return from their holiday break, refreshed and ready for a productive 2026. While traffic is rebounding from December’s seasonal low and overall engagement is increasing, user behaviour revealed different planning approaches across industries. As operators explore their options, some sectors showed more focused interest and others — broader browsing activity.

January 2026 Market Insights

Forestry Rebounds

After its December dip, forestry equipment re-emerged with a 31.74% increase in general views and experienced a sharp interest increase in a few core forestry machines:

  • Processors: up 38.36%

  • Skidders: up 4.82%

  • Feller Bunchers: up 17.27%

  • Log Loaders: up 34.31%

The targeted interest in specific equipment types suggests that operators are preparing for the season ahead with clear equipment needs in mind.

Construction Browsing

General interest in construction equipment increased by 25.71%. However, the interest across specific equipment types varied. While interest in excavators increased by 12.78% and off-highway trucks by 8.99%, a few other key equipment categories experienced a decline in views, with dozers declining by 25.26% and graders by 28.6%. This behaviour indicates that the construction equipment buyers are in the research phase, browsing broader categories without narrowing their search to specific equipment types.

Trucks are Focused and Specific

The truck category showed the opposite trend from the construction sector. While the unfiltered truck searches decreased by 27.06%, views within most separate equipment categories increased:

  • Dump & Gravel Trucks: up 65.41%

  • Service Trucks: up 83.69%

  • Water & Tanker Trucks: up 74.88%

  • Day Cab Trucks: up 42.58%

  • Highway and Sleeper Trucks: up 139.25%

This focused search pattern suggests that truck buyers are not just browsing; they know exactly what type of truck they are looking for.

Regional Overview

The number of active users increased by 8.91% nationally compared to December, though regional trends varied significantly.

Western Canada: as operators returned from holidays, British Columbia and Alberta re-emerged with strong increases of 28.54% and 34.62%, respectively.

Prairies: the number of users from Manitoba increased by 14.16% while Saskatchewan dropped 12.89%, showing a varying trend across the Prairies.

Eastern Canada: opposite of Western Canada, Eastern Canada showed a slight drop in traffic across Ontario and Quebec.

Atlantic Provinces: the Atlantic region remained relatively stable, except Newfoundland, which experienced a 13.01% decline after its unexpected December spike.

Looking Ahead

A strong start to 2026 suggests that operators are ready to get to work on their equipment needs. While the forestry and trucks sectors demonstrated focused interest and clear plans, construction buyers appear to still be in research mode and will move from browsing to targeted search in February as project planning finalizes.
