May Marketing Insights: The Latest Heavy Equipment Trends

Jun 13, 2025 - 2 months ago

May was a big month for Supply Post. From major spikes in mini excavator and dozer interest to a wave of highly specific searches by province, Canadian buyers made it clear they’re continuing to search with intention. With warm weather kicking construction and forestry into full swing, site-ready machines topped the charts.

Mini excavators saw the biggest jump this month, with search volume up 173.91%. That builds on a strong showing in April, where mini excavator pageviews had already climbed over 23%. This sustained surge suggests compact machines remain a key focus for contractors heading into summer.

Buyers also zeroed in on powerful machines like the D10 dozer, which rose 132.64% in searches. That follows April’s standout performance from the D7 dozer, which was up over 223%. With both models trending back-to-back, interest in heavy-duty earthmoving equipment is clearly gaining momentum.

Cat graders climbed 29.73%, and Tigercat interest continued to soar, up another 225% as the forestry sector ramped up. Tigercat was already one of April’s top-searched makes, so May’s repeat performance points to sustained demand in forestry. Feller bunchers also jumped 70.59%, following another strong showing last month. Together, these trends confirm that forestry equipment is holding strong as we move deeper into the season.

Provinicial Equipment Insights

The most searched equipment types by province painted a clear picture of regional priorities. In British Columbia, buyers focused on wheel loaders, John Deere 270 excavators, and mini excavators. Alberta searches leaned into Tigercat machines, Cat graders, and roll-off trucks—no surprise given the province’s busy forestry and hauling sectors. In Ontario, the 160G grader, GMC 7500, and Madill gear topped the list. Saskatchewan saw interest in oil tanks, feeder skids, and again, the GMC 7500. Manitoba searches reflected a mix of utility and construction with backhoes, Chieftain 2100 screendeck final drives, and water trucks. Quebec searches focused heavily on industrial support equipment: vacuum truck wash systems, Kenworth T800 vacuum trucks, and concrete pumps.

The most viewed equipment types reflected strong demand for site prep and hauling power. In BC, that meant excavators, processors, and dump trucks. In Alberta, processors led the way, followed by dozers and excavators. Ontario saw surging views for water tanker trucks, feller bunchers, and backhoes.

Our top listings this month also reflect where the attention went, with the most eyes being drawn to our featured ad packages. BC buyers flocked to an aggregate pit for sale, a classified seller's 1988 Washington 88, and another private seller's 2013 Volvo EC220. In Alberta, the most viewed items were the aggregate pits again, Top Down Enterprises' 2021 Timbermax T20HD, and a classified's 2004 Ford F-550 XLT listing. Ontario’s hottest listings were the same Timbermax T20HD, Marcel Equipment's 2021 Komatsu WA500-8, and the 2004 Ford F-550 XLT again.

Top-viewed dealers this month included Canadian-wide dealer Brandt Tractor, British Columbia's Major Equipment Sales, and the Supply Post Classifieds. Nor-Mar Industries and Banning Equipment also saw solid interest, proving that well-listed equipment continues to find a ready audience.

Outside the listings, buyer engagement with Supply Post content was strong. Our most-read articles of the month were "The Ultimate 2025 Trade Show List" and the May 2025 issue, showing that readers are staying plugged in to industry news and opportunities. With our 2026 Trade Show List coming soon, it’s clear that readers are planning ahead and looking for key events to attend or exhibit at.

What This Means for Your Business

All signs point to a busy summer ahead. Buyers are sharp, their searches are focused, and the appetite for job-site ready equipment is strong. If you’re listing, this is the time to highlight specs and keep photos up to date—buyers are comparing their options closely. If you’re buying, make sure you're checking back often. With traffic up and big machines moving fast, competition isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
