Nominate A BC Contractor For Contractor of the Year & Community Service Awards

Road and bridge construction and maintenance contractors are an important part of communities across B.C. and play a larger role than just building and maintaining roads and bridges. Their contribution to B.C. communities take many forms including volunteering labour and equipment for community projects and events and supporting local organizations.

BC Contractor of the Year Award Nomination

The Community Service Award recognizes the outstanding contribution the road building industry provides to communities across the province. The award will be presented at the Contractor of the Year Awards Ceremony in December 2023.

Companies in the road building industry (including the construction, maintenance and service and supply sectors) that have worked on at least one
Ministry project during the year are eligible for this award. Nominations can be submitted by anyone who would like to recognize the contribution of road building contractors to a community. Nominations can be submitted by:

Community members
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure staff
Members of the road building industry
Self-nomination by contractors

Nomination packages must be submitted by September 29th, 2023.

Nominations must include:

A completed application form (PDF, 1.3 MB)
A letter of nomination (two-page maximum) describing the contribution made by the contractor and the benefit to the community or special interest group
Supporting information such as citations, media releases, media coverage, photographs, support and thank you letters

Selection Criteria

The nominations will be evaluated on qualitative assessments of two criteria:

The benefits to the community and/or special interest group
The contribution made by nominees

Nominations - Award for Workplace Health and Safety

Road and bridge construction and maintenance contractors, along with industry suppliers and service providers, are finding new and innovative ways to promote and increase health and safety for workers in the road building industry and for the travelling public

The Workplace Health and Safety Award recognizes the outstanding achievement and commitment to the development and promotion of a safety culture in the road building industry. The award will be presented at the Contractor of the Year Awards Ceremony in December 2023. Nomination packages must be submitted by close of business on Friday, September 29, 2023.

To be eligible for nomination, companies in the road building industry (including general contractors, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, service providers and individuals) must"

Be registered and in good standing with WorkSafeBC
Have relevance, or have been implemented, on a Ministry project/contract and have a Ministry validator
Be in compliance with all relevant acts and regulatory requirements
NOTE: Safety supply companies are excluded.

Nominations can be submitted by anyone who would like to recognize the adoption and promotion of workplace health and safety in the road building industry.

Nomination packages must be submitted by close of business on Friday, September 29, 2023. Applications received after this date will be considered for next year's awards. Nominations must include:

A completed application form (PDF, 288 KB)
A letter of nomination (two-page maximum) describing the contribution by the contractor in all health and safety areas (work activity, workplace area or conditions, personal factors) including, but is not limited to
Identifying ways where significant hazards have been eliminated or controlled through engineering or work isolation
The development and implementation of unique safety procedures/practices or equipment which has been proven to reduce workplace incidents
Materials, methods or tools which have increased worker safety knowledge of industry hazards and increased protective measures
Programs or techniques which help prevent workplace incidents, injuries and illness
Supporting information such as citations, media releases, media coverage, photographs, support and thank you letters

Selection Criteria

The nominations will be evaluated by Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and WorkSafeBC representatives on :

Safety Initiative - uniqueness of the initiative (material, method, tool, program, procedure, process, technique)
Effectiveness - measurable impacts
Significance - overall impact to workers and organization
Relevance - overall impact to industry
