Ammann Unveils Electric-Drive Reversible Plate Compactor

Sep 8, 2025 - 16 hours ago

Ammann has expanded its line of electric-drive products with the release of the eAPR 20/40 Reversible Drive Plate Compactor. It is the first reversible electric plate offered by the company.

The eAPR 20/40 provides power in a light, narrow package. In fact, the machine is small enough to be transported by a passenger vehicle – making it a great fit for any contractor.

The 0 emissions electric drive enables it to work indoors and in tight spaces. It can also climb and overcome uneven terrain and provides simple, precise control, including on-the-spot vibration for particularly challenging areas.

The output of the electric-drive machine is nearly identical to its petrol-burning counterpart. This includes the exceptional compaction power of 20 kN.

An innovative handle reduces the hand-arm vibration (HAV) values to less than 2.5 m/sec², the lowest in the industry and an important comfort and safety feature.

The handle also provides ideal grip and enables intuitive machine operation by simply pushing or pulling. The open design of the handle prevents machine damage that can result from accidental lifting.
A robust and durable frame protects the plate from tough jobsites or improper use. The vibratory system is durable, reducing replacement needs. Extended service intervals lessen customer service costs.

The Battery Pack
The Honda GXE2.0 electric-drive system is key to the performance of the Ammann eAPR 20/40.
Fast charging. The battery pack charges quickly – and holds its charge, too. The battery can receive a quick charge, which gets a machine back to work during a shift or can be fully charged overnight.'

Interchangeable batteries
The eAPR 20/40 shares a common battery pack, charger and transport box with Ammann Honda e-drive rammers and forward-moving plates. This allows a low battery to be swapped out with a fresh one from another machine.

Swift start-up
Starting the machine is easy. Simply switch on the power, push “start” and the machine goes to work.
Added safety. The plate utilises lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which maximise safety. The batteries and their advanced management system are particularly robust and resistant to high temperatures, overcharging, and mechanical damage.

Benefits of E-Drive Plates
Contractors use e-drive machines to overcome some of the jobsite challenges they face. The eAPR 20/40 and other Ammann e-drives deliver on all these fronts:

  • Reducing the contractor’s carbon footprint – and producing zero emissions
  • Permitting bidding on jobs that require e-drive machines
  • Allowing work in confined spaces with poor ventilation
  • Supplying an option for sound-sensitive jobsites, including residential areas and tunnels
  • Providing better speed and torque control, which translates to more precise and efficient compaction
  • Reducing the labor time required to achieve compaction
  • Slashing maintenance costs as there are no fuel or oil filters to purchase or dispose of

The new reversible plate joins multiple other e-drive products in the Ammann lineup, including rammers, forward-moving plate compactors, a light tandem roller and the just-launched eABG 4820, a full-sized electric paver.
