Epiroc has launched the Automatic Bit Changer for DTH applications, available for the Pit Viper 270 series of drills configured for down-the-hole (DTH) drilling, which includes the Pit Viper 271, Pit Viper 275, Pit Viper 271 E, and Pit Viper 275 E.

Designed to automate one of the most repetitive and hazardous tasks in the drilling process, Epiroc's ABC DTH improves safety, increases productivity, and supports more consistent drilling operations.

The Automatic Bit Changer DTH allows operators to make and break joints, select drill bits, and complete bit changes without leaving the drill cabin. When operating remotely or autonomously, the same process can be performed from the control room, effectively removing personnel from the drill deck during bit changes while minimizing interruptions to production.

ABC DTH stores up to four drill bits, allowing operators to switch between different bit types as drilling conditions change quickly. Its above-deck design provides easy access for maintenance while helping protect drill bits from damage and contamination when not in use.

"The Automatic Bit Changer has already proven its value in rotary drilling," announced Carla Chaname, Product Manager – Automation. "We're excited to bring those same safety and productivity benefits to DTH applications."

"By automating one of the most repetitive and hazardous tasks in the drilling process, we're helping customers create a safer work environment while improving machine utilization and operational efficiency", continued Chaname.

The Automatic Bit Changer DTH applications helps customers eliminate live work during bit changes while improving machine availability, drilling efficiency, and overall operational performance while drilling the toughest materials.
