Fecon Updates Blackhawk Mulching Head

Aug 26, 2026 - 3 hours ago

Fecon LLC, a leading manufacturer of professional mulching and forestry equipment, has announced a major update to the Blackhawk mulching head, their most field-serviceable head to date.

Fecon Updates Blackhawk Mulching Head

Every Blackhawk ships standard with the X Lock tooling interface, a next-generation tool system that cuts torque requirements by 72% and eliminates the need for bushings entirely.

The headline number says it all: tool changes that previously required 425 ft/lbs of torque now require only 120 ft/lbs. That means operators can swap tools in the field using basic hand tools instead of large, expensive torque equipment.

What Is X Lock and Why Does It Come Standard?

X Lock is a completely redesigned tooling interface built from the ground up to be faster to service, stronger in the field, and simpler to maintain. Fecon built it into the Blackhawk because it delivers measurable advantages that matter in the field: no bushings, one bolt, one nut. That is the complete tool change.

The redesigned foot at the base of each tool delivers stronger weld penetration and long-term structural strength. Stronger mating surfaces extend tool life. And the simplified design means less time wrenching and more time on the job.

Every field tester who ran the Blackhawk in real work environments reported that it performs better than any rotor they have ever run. That is 100% of testers, across every application tested.

“Probably the most durable and consistent cutter head I’ve ran," said Dru Boehme, Whitewright, TX. "Nothing seems to get jammed and makes the job that much easier.”

The Numbers That Matter

425 down to 120 ft/lbs. That is the torque required to change tools on competitor mulching heads versus X Lock. At 120 ft/lbs, you do not need specialty equipment. Basic hand tools are all it takes.

  • 1 bolt. 1 nut. That is the complete tool change. No bushings. No extra steps. No frustration.
  • 100% of field testers reported better performance than any rotor they had previously run.

A New Naming System to Match

Along with the new tooling interface, Fecon is introducing a unified rotor naming system designed to make ordering and stocking simpler for dealers and operators alike.

  • XDC Depth Control (formerly the DCR rotor)

The new name maps directly to the existing lineup. If you know the old name, you know the new one. The goal is to eliminate confusion at the parts counter and simplify inventory management across the dealer network.

Built for the Future

Patents on the X Lock System is built on proprietary, protected intellectual property. The system is being introduced across all new Fecon mulchers and will be the exclusive tooling interface for all future models.
