Sandvik Introduces New Top Hammer Drill Rig

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 in Las Vegas was the venue for this market launch.

This new long-feed version enhances the capabilities of the Ranger DXi top hammer rig family in mining applications, featuring up to 6.4 meters (21 ft) of single-pass drilling and a major boost in compressor output. Combined with the largest drilling coverage area on the market and uniquely effective rock tools, the new Ranger DX1010i offers superior productivity for surface mining applications.

The Ranger DXi top hammer drill rigs by Sandvik have earned a strong reputation at hundreds of work sites around the globe. The rigs’ rotating superstructure excels time and again, providing a superior reach and excellent single set-up productivity in a multitude of applications, ranging from mining to infrastructure. Now all the benefits of Ranger DXi drill rigs, such as superior mobility and fuel economy, comfortable cabin and advanced automation options, merge with exciting new features and major upgrades to create a surface drilling solution for the specific needs of the mining industry.

Ranger DX1010i keeps the proven superior reach of the previous Ranger DXi family drill rigs to produce more holes with a single set-up and combines it with a new long-feed system to enable 6.4-meters (21ft) of single-pass drilling. The large drilling coverage area, plus longer feed, enable more continuous drilling and drilled meters. The innovative long-piston RD930 rock drill and dedicated CT55/67 rock tools further boost performance by generating optimized shock waves to achieve higher penetration rates, longer tool life and lower fuel consumption.

To support the capability for deeper holes, the auxiliary systems of the new Ranger DX1010i include extensive upgrades to deliver more power, more air and more water. The powerful compressor blows the deeper holes clean and clear with its 11 cubic meters per minute (389 cfm) of flushing capacity. Furthermore, the water system now includes an option for an extra tank, topping up the capacity to 500 liters to allow the rig to keep drilling for longer with water flushing.

The design features of Ranger DX1010i are based on decades of experience in real-life conditions, combining durability with Sandvik-enabled intelligence. The rig includes a host of advanced solutions to make the operator’s life easier and their work more productive, including the safe and comfortable iCab cabin, advanced connectivity for Sandvik digital solutions, improved one hole automation with collaring automatics and the iClean drilling automation system. All these systems aim at the same goal: empowering operators to drill more, support easier machine servicing, and transfer production data smoothly to the office, all the while staying in the safety and comfort of the super silent, air-conditioned cab.
