One of Vancouver Island’s largest construction companies is Port Hardy Bulldozing which employs up to 60 men in the vast area of the Nimpkish Valley.

Cat 253 excavator successfully clears out another logging road for Port Hardy Bulldozing.

Owner John Milligan moved to the small north island community in 1964 to work as a log salvage contractor. The following year, he bought a Caterpillar D6 tractor and went into business clearing land.

Viking and PAL Aerospace Sign DHC-6 Twin Otter Aerial Firefighting System Contract

Viking Air Limited ("Viking") and PAL Aerospace Canada are proud to announce the establishment of a contract to support the Twin Otter Fire Attack System.

The agreement's scope includes the design, manufacturing, installation, and certification of the Aerial Firefighting System for the Twin Otter DHC-6 300 and 400 aircraft. It is anticipated that the Aerial Firefighting System will be certified in 2022 and an international customer will receive the first converted aircraft.

New Business Of Sawmilling Program At BCIT

In continued partnership with Interfor, Canfor, West Fraser and Tolko, BCIT has launched a new Associate Certificate Program – the Business of Sawmilling. This new program focuses on educating forest industry workers about essential business skills – helping them grow and advance within their organization and the industry.

The pilot cohort of this program was launched in October 2020 and has already seen early indications of success. There will be 28 more participants from eight companies starting in the next cohort of this program in May 2021.

E-Commerce and Resumption of Supply Chains Catalyze Global Commercial Vehicles Industry

Frost & Sullivan's recent analysis finds that the commercial vehicles industry, comprising of light commercial vehicles (LCV) and medium and heavy-duty trucks (M&HDT), is on track to recovery as worldwide economic activities resume.

The global LCV unit shipment is estimated to reach 12.6 million units in 2021 from 11.4 million units in 2020, at 10.3% year-on-year (YoY) growth. The M&HDT segment is projected to reach 3.4 million units in 2021 from 3.2 million units last year, an uptick at 5.9% YoY growth. The exponential growth of e-commerce and last-mile delivery push the demand for LCV, while the resumption of freight movement at ports and the revival of construction activities accelerate the sales of M&HD trucks globally.

WIT’s new program, called LeadHERtrucking, will utilize this mentoring structure to match female drivers new to the industry with experienced women leaders who have achieved long-term successful careers as professional drivers.
