  • BrandSafway Delivers Forming And Access On Gordie Howe International Bridge

    Several BrandSafway companies are working together to deliver comprehensive access, scaffolding and forming solutions for the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Once construction is finished, the six-lane (three lanes to Canada and three to the U.S.), cable-stayed bridge will have a clear span of 853 meters (0.53 miles) — the longest of any cable-stayed bridge in North America.

    Aluma Systems by BrandSafway is providing formwork, falsework, stair towers and access platforms to support the concrete pours for the main pylon footings. This includes custom preassembled formwork panels for the footings, caisson collars, crane foundations, the pylon starters, and a base platform for access, storage and the temporary elevators surrounding each pylon.

  • Prairie Provinces To Lead Canada In Renewable Energy Growth

    Canada’s Prairie Provinces will lead the country’s growth in renewable energy capacity over the next three years, says a new report by the Canada Energy Regulator (CER).

    The online report, titled Canada’s Renewable Power, says decreased reliance on coal and substantial increases in wind and solar capacity will increase the amount of renewable energy added to the grid in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Meanwhile, Manitoba will strengthen its position as a prominent hydro producer in Canada. The pace of overall renewable energy growth is expected to slow at the national level between 2021 and 2023, but with strong growth in provinces with a large reliance on fossil fuel generation.

    At the end of several shows they had a “pole falling” contest where there would be a draw for two pairs of fallers to fall the climbing trees to hit a peg, or into the lake (at the Albany, Oregon world championships).

     


    Phil Whittaker was a popular logger sports competitor, who worked in the area in the 50s. My father, Dennis Wilson, was Phil’s foreman, and the Whittaker family and my family would tour the logger sports circuit on weekends. Phil’s son Jim also competed in the sports.
