    The birth of the New Holland skid steer took place in haytools design, when an engineer discovered that his mower design could be turned on its side to achieve an upward- and forward-reaching motion – the foundation of what would become New Holland’s industry-exclusive, Super Boom vertical lift loader design.

  • Stanley Black & Decker To Acquire Excel Industries

    Stanley Black & Decker has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Excel Industries for $375 million in cash.

(BigDog).  With over $375 million of revenue forecasted in 2021, Excel serves approximately 1,400 active independent equipment dealer outlets that stock, sell and service Hustler and BigDog products in the United States and Canada. Excel has a strong legacy of innovation and launched the first hydrostatic zero-turn mower in 1964.  The Company is located in Hesston, Kansas, and has approximately 600 employees.

    A spar tree is the tree used as the highest anchor point in a high lead cable logging setup.

    In early logging days, loggers used “spar trees” to anchor a high lead cable. The spar tree was selected for height and strength as it needed to resist the weight and pressure of the logs it would help move. Once a tree was chosen for this task, a logger known as a “high climber” would remove the tree’s branches, one by one, and remove the top of the tree in order to attach the block and tackle and cabling.

  • From the archives: A Skidder Designed For The Pacific Northwest

    From February 1973: This is a subject close to the heart of Harold Armenau, and we are sure of great interest to our readers. We talked to Harold at the TLA Convention held in the Bayshore Inn in Vancouver, and asked him how his company’s present product, the Timber Toter Skidder had developed. Incidentally, Harold is the founder and president of Monashee Manufacturing Corporation Limited of Kelowna — a company which for the past 35 years has specialized in the manufacture of mobile equipment.
