Freightliner eCascadia & eM2 Now Available To Order

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) have announced that the Freightliner eCascadia and Freightliner eM2 are now available to order. The eCascadia and eM2 are the first all-electric trucks from the company, and are the longest-range commercial battery electric vehicles in customer hands in North America.

“From reveal of proof of concept in 2018, to a demonstration fleet that’s in the hands of real customers, running real freight in the real world, to today’s moment where we are ready to formally welcome the nation’s fleets to all-electric freight movement, the entire team at Daimler Trucks North America is incredibly proud of our progress,” said Richard Howard, senior vice president, on-highway sales and marketing, DTNA. “Moreover, we are very excited to take this next important step into the future of carbon-neutral freight transportation with our great customers and dealers.”

The findings of a new industry-wide survey released by the BC Construction Association (BCCA) for Construction Month 2021 reveal the career opportunity in a sector officially designated as essential to the provincial economy during pandemic.

B.C.’s construction industry continued to operate safely despite COVID-19, which had the dual effect of increasing the financial stability, job satisfaction, and diversity of the workforce while putting new strains on employers who sought to balance safety protocols, late payments, rising costs and materials shortages with their responsibility to keep working when others could not.

The B.C. Forest Service is operating a “Love machine” in Surrey, and it’s giving a real lift to thousands every day.

The unique “Love Machine” at B.C. Forest Service’s large nursery at Surrey can lift up to 420,000 tree seedings daily. Infant trees are relayed to large boxes on accompanying tractor-towed vehicle and rushed to nearby sorting and storage shed. B.C. Forest Service photo.

Electric Island: First-Of-Its-Kind Heavy-Duty Electric Truck Charging Site Opens

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) and Portland General Electric (PGE) opened to the public in April the first-of-its-kind heavy-duty electric truck charging site, called “Electric Island.” Electric Island will help accelerate the development, testing and deployment of zero emissions (tank to wheel) commercial vehicles, like the ones manufactured by DTNA.

The Freightliner eCascadia and eM2, and Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley at Electric Island.

First announced in December 2020, Electric Island opens with eight vehicle charging stations (a majority of which are available for public use) for the charging of electric cars, buses, box vans and semi-trucks. The site is built to immediately provide charging for EVs of all shapes and sizes, and will serve as an innovation center, allowing both PGE and DTNA to study energy management, charger use and performance, and, in the case of DTNA, its own vehicles’ charging performance.
