  • Volvo Launches World’s First Vehicle Using Fossil-Free Steel

    Volvo Group is proud to reveal the world’s first vehicle made of fossil-free steel from SSAB – made in Volvo Construction Equipment’s facility in Braås, Sweden. During a recent green steel collaboration event, it was announced that more vehicles will follow in 2022 in what will be a series of concept vehicles and components using fossil-free steel from SSAB.

    The machine, a load carrier for use in mining and quarrying, was unveiled at a green steel collaboration event today, October 13, in Gothenburg hosted by Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo CE, and Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO Volvo Group. During the premiere, which was broadcasted online and is available to watch here, attendees got to see the world’s first machine made of fossil-free steel. In addition, insights about yet another ground-breaking sustainable steel collaboration were shared. EU commissioner for internal market, Thierry Breton, and the Swedish minister of enterprise and innovation, Ibrahim Baylan, joined the event together with Martin Lindqvist, CEO SSAB and other speakers.

  • Log Handling Duties Now Handled Exclusively By Sennebogen

    Rettenmeier, one of the largest manufacturers of DIY wood products began construction of a new sawmill at the Wilburgstetten site in the Spring of 2020. Fast forward to today: a new high-performance saw line outputting the three grades of DIY wood products and the expansion of the fleet with four new Sennebogen timber handlers at the Wilburgstetten site is also underway. With this investment, the processing capacity of the plant will increase to a further 1.3 million FBM per year in the future.

    Whether sawn or structural timber, glulam or beams, Rettenmeier's product range is broad and unparalleled. Plant Manager Detlef Keuper says, "You can actually find us in just about every European construction market." For moving logs at the site, Keuper has relied on the long-standing relationship with Sennebogen and their dealer for more than 15 years now, "We've been relying on the strong and powerful Sennebogen material handlers for a long time now and are very satisfied with the reliability of the machines." The long service life of Sennebogen machines is reflected in the considerable number of operating hours. With over 38,000 hours already on a 730 built in 2007, it is now being used as a training vehicle for new employees. "We take great care of our fleet and achieve an impressive longevity of our machines thanks to a very good maintenance and service program,” emphasizes Detlef Keuper.

  • Canada’s First Semi-Autonomous Trucks Take To Alberta Highways

    Canada’s commercial trucking industry is shifting into a future driven by safety, efficiency, and Connected Automated Driver Assistance Systems. On September 29, the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) and its partners introduced the nation’s first pair of artificially intelligent semi-trucks of their kind, which are part of a project studying the safety and benefits of connected commercial transportation on Canadian roadways.

    The trucks, affectionately dubbed “Daisy” and “Lily”, are 2020 Peterbilt 579s equipped with Pronto AI’s Co-pilot System. They are part of a pilot project called the Cooperative Truck Platooning System (CTPS), which is funded in part by the federal government through Transport Canada.
