  • Family Values Lead A. Menshen To Expanding Sennebogen Fleet

Werdohl, Germany - Over the course of its 60 years, family-owned A. Menshen GmbH & Co. KG has developed from the one-man operation founded by Arnold Menshen, into the internationally active recycling company that it is today. Menshen now employs around 60 people at its multi-material site in the town of Werdohl, in the north Rhine region of western Germany.

Tradition, trust and reliability play a major role in all company decisions, where new equipment purchases are not based purely on economics, but also with an eye to the future of its community and its people.

These are values that Menshen shared with SENNEBOGEN prior to the latest additions to its scrap handling fleet. Menshen recently acquired two new SENNEBOGEN purpose-built 821 M E-Series machines. The new material handlers bring the total SENNEBOGEN fleet at Menshen up to seven machines serving all indoor and outdoor processes on the 17-acre (70,000 m²) site.

  • Jobs And Infrastructure At Risk, Labour And Management Alliance Warns

Employment and tax revenues will take a staggering hit over the next decade unless governments work together to support municipal infrastructure investments, according to a new report prepared for the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario (RCCAO).

Municipal governments are facing the prospect of massive operating deficits due to the heightened need for services and a simultaneous drop in revenue. Combined with a significant expected decline in GDP, this could put Ontario’s infrastructure investments at risk, which will have long-term implications for growth even after the threat of COVID-19 has passed.

“Governments face a stark choice as they plan for the post-COVID-19 recovery,” said RCCAO executive director Andy Manahan. “Strategic investments in state-of-good-repair projects will keep jobs and growth on track and our municipalities afloat. Alternatively, failure to address municipal deficits and maintain infrastructure spending would have devastating economic consequences on Ontario citizens and businesses.”

  • Building Industry Supports Ontario Government’s Decision To Allow Resumption Of Below-Grade Construction

The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) and the Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA) welcome the Government of Ontario’s decision to allow the resumption of below-grade construction under the COVID-19 Emergency Orders. Each step that is taken toward returning to normal construction activity allows the industry to meet the housing needs of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Ontario.

“With almost two thirds of the new housing units delivered each year in the GTA being in high-rise buildings, the resumption of below-grade construction is absolutely vital to meeting the region’s housing needs,” said Dave Wilkes, President & CEO, BILD. “No work on a high-rise building can start without below-grade construction being completed.”

Mr. Wilkes added that getting back to more normal construction activity will help lead the economic recovery in the GTA. “Residential construction is an engine of the GTA economy, with every 1,000 housing units generating 2,600 direct and indirect jobs, paying half a billion dollars in wages and generating $600 million in economic activity.”
