    – Future Skills Centre Announces Support for Project to Attract Underrepresented Groups to Unionized Construction –

    Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) announced the launch of the Virtual Recruitment and Assessment Project to enhance recruitment efforts for the Building Trades. The Virtual Recruitment and Assessment for the Unionized Construction Industry project is funded by the Government of Canada’s Future Skills Centre. Canada’s Building Trades Unions is pleased to partner with SkillPlan and SRDC to bring the project to life.

  • Poll Shows Overwhelming Support for Fair Bidding in B.C.

    A new poll released by Merit Canada and the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association shows that 83% of British Columbians surveyed support giving all construction companies a fair chance to land taxpayer-funded work, regardless of how their workforce is organized. Canada-wide, support for fair bidding hits 88%.

    “The building trades unions represent fewer than 15% of B.C. construction workers, yet they are given preferential treatment by the NDP Government,” said ICBA president Chris Gardner. “While British Columbians overwhelmingly support giving all construction companies in B.C. a fair chance at taxpayer-funded work, the province has effectively cut a special deal with their long-term supporters at the expense of B.C.’s construction workers and taxpayers.”

  • The Women In Trucking Association’s First Annual Female Driver Of The Year

    Susie De Ridder, company driver for Armour Transportation Systems in New Brunswick, Canada as the winner of the first annual Female Driver of the Year award.

    De Ridder was among three finalists for the award. The other finalists include Carmen Anderson, a company driver at America’s Service Line, LLC and Sarah Fiske, a company driver at FedEx Freight.

  • Brandt Further Expands Geopositioning Offering, To Become Exclusive Canadian Sokkia Dealer

    The Brandt Group of Companies is pleased to announce that, effective June 7, 2020 they have reached an agreement regarding the material terms with Topcon Positioning Systems, Inc. ("Topcon") to acquire the assets of Ontario-based Sokkia Canada, subject to final executed agreements and approval of Topcon's board of directors. Following this acquisition, which directly affects the Ontario and Quebec markets, Brandt will become the exclusive dealer for Sokkia optical survey instruments, accessories and parts for all of Canada.


    The news closely follows Brandt's announcement of their intent to acquire leading Ontario positioning technology vendors GeoShack and Inteq and is the latest in a growing list of acquisitions and dealer agreements made by the Regina, SK-based company since their purchase of Ontario/Quebec/Newfoundland and Labrador John Deere Construction & Forestry dealer Nortrax in late 2019.

  • PM JT Announces Support To Help Communities Create Jobs And Restart The Economy

    As we continue to focus on the health and safety of all Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are also taking immediate action to support small towns and big cities across the country to restart the economy, and create good, well-paying jobs.

    The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that funding delivered through the federal Gas Tax Fund will be accelerated this year to help communities as quickly as possible while respecting public health guidelines.

    This means that $2.2 billion in annual federal infrastructure funding for communities will be delivered in one payment in June. Early delivery of the full funding for 2020-21 will help communities quickly move forward with infrastructure projects that will improve our quality of life and help restart local economies.
