  • Managing Community Forests: Cariboo Wildfire Risk Reduction Projects

    100 MILE HOUSE, B.C.: The Forest Enhancement Society of B.C. (FESBC) is supporting three projects within the 100 Mile House Community Forest which will reduce wildfire risk in priority interface areas.

    The 100 Mile House Development Corporation undertook a multi-phase project. The first phase assessed and identified wildfire risk and the second phase included the development of site-specific forestry. Implementation of various fuel management treatments falls under the third phase.

    – NABTU, Build Together form partnership with LeanIn.Org –

     Women continue to make up less than five per cent of the construction workforce. Build Together: Women of the Building Trades has made significant strides over the years to develop resources and materials that address real issues women face in the construction sector, including the establishment of provincial Build Together Chapters. Utilizing this established network, Build Together, along with North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), have launched Lean In Circles for Union Tradeswomen a new partnership with www.leanin.org to connect tradeswomen, help them learn new skills to navigate bias and advocates for themselves, for a piloted six-month program across Canada and in St. Louis, MO.

    With an eye on maximizing uptime, while improving communications for fleet customers, Kenworth has announced plans for an all-encompassing program that includes personalized customer care, and a web portal with connectivity to their Kenworth support team, instant access to product information, truck performance data, service history, and maintenance information.

    “We’re aiming to set a new industry standard for customer care and support,” announced Kevin Baney, Kenworth general manager and PACCAR vice president. “We have established the foundation and we’ll be building out a comprehensive program throughout the year.  

    According to Baney, Kenworth has a long history of building custom trucks to meet the exact needs of customers. “Our breadth of products and options have long led the industry – building the right truck for the right job has been our mantra,” he said. “We’re now bringing that ‘customized’ approach to support after the sale, and that will allow our fleet customers to integrate more closely with Kenworth. We are committed to building relationships that last a lifetime to ensure the success of our customers.

    Goal to double percentage of women working in construction trades on LNG Canada project

    Response has far exceeded expectations to LNG Canada and its prime contractor, JGC Fluor’s YOUR PLACE workforce development program for women aimed at attracting, recruiting, training, supporting and employing women to work in the construction trades on the LNG Canada project. More than 1,000 women have already applied to take part in the program following its launch four months ago.
