  • Province, BCGEU and BCRB reach tentative agreement

    A tentative agreement has been reached between the Province, B.C. Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association and the B.C. Government and Service Employees Union (BCGEU) on labour succession in 27 highway maintenance service areas, ensuring job security and improved maintenance service levels on the highway network.

    Gary and Darren Thomas are third generation loggers who have worked in the bush for practically their entire lives. Hailing from Pelican Lake First Nation near Leoville, Saskatchewan, the brothers grew up hunting and fishing around Chitek Lake and started working in the bush when they were still kids. Both father and grandfather made a living in the bush and the boys were line skidding full time by the time they were in their early teens. “Logging was something that we always liked,” says Gary. “We started full time in the bush at thirteen.”

  • First Pier Caps Arrive At The Port Of Montréal

    Signature on the Saint Lawrence is proud to have reached another significant milestone in the construction of the new Champlain Bridge with the arrival of the first ship carrying the first pier caps, from Spain. Built in the three Spanish plants of Megusa, Tecade and Dizmar, these oversized parts left the port of Seville in late March and crossed the Atlantic, reaching the Port of Montreal on Saturday, April 8. The pier caps are colossal, W-shaped lateral steel beams on which the three traffic corridors will rest.
