  • OTA Business Pulse Survey Shows Growing Optimism For Trucking

Seventy-two per cent of the carriers who completed the OTA’s second quarter 2010 Business e-Pulse Survey said they were optimistic about the trucking industry’s overall prospects for the next three months – up a significant 20 percentage points over the 1Q10 survey. The survey was conducted electronically between April 5th and April 20th, 2010. Only 10% of respondents indicated they were pessimistic. The proportion of carriers who are optimistic about the industry is now at its highest level since OTA began conducting the quarterly survey of its members in the third quarter of 2008. At that time only 17% of carriers were optimistic about the industry’s prospects. Since 2Q09, the share of carriers who were optimistic about the industry has grown steadily in each of the five quarters since then from 27% to 72%. It was only in the third quarter of last year that the number of optimists outweighed the number of pessimists for the first time. It wasn’t until the first quarter of this year that the optimists were in the majority, so the level of optimism evident in the most recent survey is very impressive.
