    Vermeer Introduces New TR5300EM Trommel Screen

    Vermeer expands its electric-powered recycling product line with the addition of the new TR5300EM trommel screen. This new trommel screen is powered by an industrial-duty, fan-cooled 60-hp (44.7-kW) electric motor, and delivers a drum speed of 0-24 revolutions per minute to handle multiple material types, including compost, topsoil and wood biomass. The quiet operating TR5300EM also features a low hopper infeed with a capacity of 5.5-yd3 (4.2 m3) and includes new service and operating enhancements. The Vermeer TR5300EM is an excellent addition to recycling and organic material processing companies looking to help reduce exhaust emissions, noise levels and maintenance.
    According to Jay Van Roekel, product manager for Vermeer Recycling and Forestry products, the demand for electric equipment to process organic material is growing, and the TR5300EM complements the line of electric recycling and processing equipment Vermeer produces. “Many of our horizontal and tub grinders are available with electric motors, as well as the TR626EM trommel screen,” he explained. “The TR5300EM is a more compact unit than the TR626EM, making it an excellent option for processing facilities located in urban environments and companies looking to reduce emissions and maintenance.”
    The hydraulically driven drum on the TR5300EM is 15-ft (4.6 m) long and 5-ft (1.6 m) in diameter to optimize material processing and deliver a high-quality end product. Quick-change screens and a quick-change drum help make it convenient and quick to perform sizing adjustments. The TR5300EM also features several access doors to help with servicing and a set of dual-hinged doors on both sides of the machine for full access to the drum at ground level.
    The TR5300EM trommel screen overs and fines conveyors are adjustable to help with dust control and allow for precise placement of material. The unit is also equipped with auto overs flaps to help contain material and reduce spillage.
    Vermeer also designed this electric trommel screen for ease of maneuverability and transport. “A lot of electric recycling processing machinery in the market is stationary,” explained Van Roekel. “However, the ability to move a machine can help make servicing and cleaning more efficient. The TR5300EM is built on a single-axle frame, making it possible to transport it to another jobsite or move it into storage when it’s not in use, as well as making it convenient for a person performing maintenance or cleaning up material around the unit.”
    The TR5300EM can be equipped with several optional accessories, including a grizzly screen to sort out oversized material and a magnetic head pulley for removing unwanted metal. It can also be outfitted with an auger drum and a hopper extension.

  • AEM Announces 2020 Inductees To AEM Hall Of Fame

    The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) Hall of Fame recognizes the pioneers whose inventions, ideas, leadership and courage have contributed to the industry and our community’s quality of life. For 2020, AEM has selected three individuals to celebrate in its Hall of Fame: Art Moore, founder of Snorkel Lifts, and brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda, inventors of the Gradall excavator.
    “Art Moore’s creations have saved thousands of lives in allowing firefighters to reach blazes they couldn’t before, and enabled thousands more with their innovative construction and access lifts,” said AEM President Dennis Slater. “The innovation of the Ferwerda brothers and their Gradall excavator has enabled thousands of miles of roadway to be built more quickly, allowing us to build the future we know today. AEM is proud to welcome these innovators to our respected list of industry leaders, inspiring the next generation to develop and pursue their ideas for a better future for everyone.”

    Art Moore (1924-2019) Founder, Snorkel Lifts
    Art Moore grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri, just north of Kansas City, where he became childhood friends with future business partner Ray Pitman. Pitman and Moore started the Pitman Manufacturing Company in 1949, focusing on hydraulic lift trucks. In 1958, the Chicago Fire Department modified a Pitman truck with a fire hose, and Moore saw the benefit of the idea, breaking off to focus on lifted fire equipment with the Snorkel Fire Equipment Company, which he opened in 1959.

    Registration Open For Second Round Of CleanBC Heavy-Duty Vehicle Efficiency

    The BC Trucking Association (BCTA), in partnership with the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, announces the second offering of the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency (HDVE) Program.
    The Province of British Columbia has committed $1.4 million to a second year of the program that features a course for fleets on fuel management and incentives for the purchase and installation of approved fuel-efficiency devices. For 2020, BCTA will be delivering the CleanBC HDVE Program Course in selected communities and via webinar for trucking companies across British Columbia, with an expanded list of approved devices.
    “Our government is pleased to continue supporting the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program in partnership with the BC Trucking Association,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “This program is designed to teach participants how to develop a fuel management program that will reduce operating costs associated with fuel. I encourage people in this sector to sign up for this opportunity that will help save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
    “We’re grateful for continued support and commitment from the Province for the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program, which provides vital funding to assist BC companies in greening their fleets,” says Dave Earle, BCTA president and CEO. “Through the CleanBC HDVE Program, we can collectively do our part in the fight against climate change and, at the same time, implement improvements that put us among the greenest fleets in North America.”
    The goal of the CleanBC HDVE Program is to assist BC-based fleets to invest in equipment and best practices for reducing fuel usage and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Companies that successfully complete the pre-requisite course and meet all eligibility requirements may apply for rebates of 30 to 50 percent on verified devices and equipment.
    BCTA launched the first CleanBC HDVE Program in October 2019, scheduling courses in Langley, Kamloops, and Prince George. This offering saw participants from 117 companies across BC, operating 15,839 heavy-duty vehicles in total. Thirty-seven companies out of 42 applicants successfully obtained funding for fuel-saving equipment such as wide-based tires, aerodynamic devices and auxiliary power units (APUs, for in-cab power services) as well as fuel-efficiency training for drivers. Altogether, BCTA estimates these companies have reduced their emissions by approximately 13.9 million kilograms of CO2, equivalent to removing about 2,934 passenger cars from BC roads.
    “Thanks to the CleanBC HDVE Program, we were able to outfit our tractors with clean, electric APUs that have cut idling emissions from our trucks in half,” says Pardeep Arora, director, Triple Eight Transportation Inc. “We’re pleased we’ve reduced our fuel usage and costs while still keeping our drivers comfortable in their vehicles.”
    To be eligible to participate, companies must have one or more heavy-duty commercial vehicles in their fleet (a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight greater than 11,794 kg) that is licensed and insured to operate in British Columbia, conducts business in British Columbia, and has a terminal located in British Columbia.
    The free, pre-requisite CleanBC HDVE Program Course teaches participants how to develop a Fuel Management Program for any size fleet, incorporating measures to improve fuel economy based on what will work best for each operation. It will also show how to develop a baseline of fuel consumption and track progress as part of the company’s program.
    Locations for the CleanBC HDVE Program Course include the Kootenays, Vancouver Island and Langley, as well as through on-line webinars. In response to input from previous participants, we’ve condensed the content for delivery over four hours and will offer sessions on Saturdays, so that operations with fewer staff can attend without affecting their work week.
    Registration opens September 17, 2020, for sessions scheduled on October 1 in Langley (BCTA training room) and on September 29, October 13 and October 29 by webinar, with dates for other locations to come. Sessions take place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, except for the October 13 webinar, which is offered in the afternoon, 12:30 to 4:30 pm.     Upon successful completion of the course, participants are eligible to apply for CleanBC HDVE Program Incentives, featuring rebates on the purchase and installation of qualifying fuel-saving equipment. For the second round of the program, we’ve increased the Incentive amount to $15,000 per vehicle, up from $10,000, leaving the maximum amount per fleet at $100,000. As well, the HDVE Program now allows additional time for successful participants to meet installation requirements: 65 days for retrofits (from 45 days) and 120 days for new equipment (from 90 days).
    Applications for Incentives open January 25, 2021, and close February 5, 2021.
    Interested fleets are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. As with the first round, BCTA will be ensuring that funding is allocated equitably among successful applicants by region. Although BCTA is a member-based organization, there is no requirement to belong to the association to participate in the CleanBC HDVE Program.
    This is the second of three potential program offerings for which the Province of British Columbia has committed $1.4 million annually.

    Expired- Alberta Removes Licence Plate Stickers

    Starting January 1, Albertans will no longer require expiry stickers on their licence plates as the province moves toward adopting reflective plates.
    Alberta’s government first required registration expiry dates to be visible on Alberta licence plates in 1974. Due to advances in technology, stickers marking the month and year of registration, as well as stickers for fleet vehicles and permanent trailers, will no longer be issued in 2021.
    “Alberta’s government has been looking for ways to improve and modernize the delivery of registry services for Albertans. By moving to reflective licence plates, expiry stickers become redundant and outdated. This common-sense change cuts red tape, aligns Alberta with other Canadian provinces, and saves taxpayers money,” said Nate Glubish, Minister of Service Alberta.
    In fall 2021, Alberta will transition to high-definition reflective licence plates. The reflective plates are more easily scanned by automated licence plate readers, which will assist law enforcement agencies using that technology to validate licence plate registration at roadside.
    Reflective plates will be issued on a go-forward basis after the current stock of painted licence plates runs out in the fall.
    “Cutting red tape is just common sense. We are bringing Alberta’s government into the 21st century and moving at the speed Albertans deserve,” stated Grant Hunter, Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction.
    “Registry agents support this next step to modernizing the delivery of registry services. We applaud Minister Glubish for taking the initiative to make changes that will benefit Albertans and cut red tape,” said Rikki McBride, chief executive officer, Association of Alberta Registry Agents.
    Alberta drivers and vehicle owners will still be responsible for renewing their registration on time, and will still require a valid certificate of vehicle registration. Albertans can sign up to receive an electronic renewal notice through a registry agent, the Alberta Motor Association, or MyAlberta eServices.

    In 2021, The Supply Post turns 50! We invite you to join us in our year-long celebration of 50 years of publishing for so many vibrant industries.

    Supply Post began fifty years ago as a new venture by my grandfather, T.R.C. (Ken) Kenward, in 1971. The paper started small and was focused almost exclusively on mining. The idea of a newspaper that served as a marketplace and news source for heavy industry in BC had turned into a reality. Most of the employees were family members with everyone doing two or three different jobs. Three generations later, we’re still here publishing in print right across Canada. Our focus has evolved from mining into forestry, construction, trucking, aggregates and more. For 50 years, we’ve matched up quality buyers with quality sellers.

    Starting this month, we will feature articles from five decades of The Supply Post; stories from the last 50 years that we know you will enjoy reading. For some of the articles, we have taken the time to do an “update” when possible. We will be running these special features all through 2021, along with profiles of long-time advertisers and industry influencers. We are blessed to have a number of advertisers who have graced our pages for more than 40 years without missing an issue. Our showcase of those companies will start with Rollins Machinery this month.
