  • Canada Cartage Selected As Top Fleet Employer For Fifth Straight Year

Trucking HR Canada has announced that Canada Cartage has been selected as one of the country's Top Fleet Employers. The award honours the best workplaces in Canada's trucking industry. Canada Cartage has also been recognized as an Employer of Distinction, having successfully been recognized five years in a row as a Top Fleet Employer.

Fleets of every size were rated on topics including employee recognition, compensation, lifestyle, employee engagement, wellness, professional development, recruitment, and retention. The award was evaluated based on a comprehensive application process, driver and staff surveys, and follow-up interviews.

"At a time when the trucking industry is being showcased nationally for its essential role on the front lines of Covid-19, we commend these fleets who are on the front lines of showcasing the great workplaces we offer" said CEO Angela Splinter. "We look forward to honoring and celebrating them post Covid-19".

  • Industry Groups Come Together To Support Canada’s Food Banks

In an effort to bolster support for Canadian families in need, 18 national and regional industry associations and partners came together today to donate a total of $36,000 to the Ottawa Food Bank, Food Banks Canada, and to food banks across the country – and they have challenged other industry groups to do the same.

“The initiative spearheaded by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC), Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC), and the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), also encourages participation from association staff members who have the means to support,” said MAC President and CEO Pierre Gratton.

“It all started with a Sunday afternoon thought and an email to Bob at CIAC and Derek at FPAC,” said Gratton. “They thought it was a great idea and by Sunday night we had over a dozen supporters on board,” he added.
“This is such a difficult time for so many families in Ottawa and across the country.  We are all trying to find the most meaningful ways to pitch in and help,” said CIAC President and CEO Bob Masterson. “We know that the Ottawa Food Bank, Food Banks Canada, and local food banks are trusted partners and can put these funds to use right away to help families in our communities,” Masterson added.

  • Valued Customer

    Valued Customer,
With many of us working under shelter-in-place orders, we are grateful for those fleets making critical deliveries to support the rest of us.  It's also great to see the heroes of our industry - commercial truck drivers - finally getting their due.  That’s why we are especially touched by some of the stories in the news recently.

In nearly two dozen cities last week, International Truck dealers provided free meals to truck drivers to simply say “thanks.”   The timing couldn’t have been better – with so many businesses temporarily closed, finding a restaurant that was open and could also accommodate truck parking became nearly impossible. From Grand Rapids to Memphis and from Edmonton to Albuquerque, our dealers served nearly 10,000 meals last week! These are the times the transportation industry is at its finest, and we are proud of the selfless efforts of the employees at these outstanding dealerships.

  • GlobalData Sharply Revises Down Forecast For Construction Output Growth Globally To Just 0.5% In 2020

Prior to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, leading data and analytics company GlobalData had predicted that there would be an acceleration in the pace of growth in the global construction industry, but given the severe disruption in China and other leading economies worldwide following the outbreak, the forecast for growth in 2020 has now been revised down to 0.5% (from 3.1% previously).

The current forecast assumes that the outbreak is contained across all major markets by the end of the second quarter, following which, conditions would allow for a return to normalcy in terms of economic activity and freedom of movement in the second half of the year. However, there will be a lingering and potentially heavy impact on private investment owing to the financial toll that was inflicted upon businesses and investors across a wide range of sectors. While growth in 2021 will be marginally higher than previously expected owing to the projected rebound (and high year-on-year growth rate) in the first half of next year, in the event that the spread of the virus continues into the second half of 2020, further downward revisions to the growth outlook are likely.
