  • ATA Strongly Supports The Freight FOCUS Act Of 2010

    The American Trucking Associations is proud to lend its support to the Freight FOCUS Act of 2010, introduced by Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Calif.). The legislation would address critical freight transportation needs, focusing resources on the nation's most important goods movement corridors. Rather than draw resources from the depleted Highway Trust Fund, much of the funding would come from additional user fees paid by those modes which benefit from projects funded through a competitive process administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Furthermore, the bill makes sure that revenue is distributed according to each mode's financial contribution to the program. “This legislation will go a long way toward addressing critical bottlenecks on our nation's most important highway corridors,” said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. “These chokepoints cost the trucking industry tens of billions of dollars each year, and force trucks to waste a tremendous amount of fuel. With Congresswoman Richardson's help, we can begin to fix these problem areas, which will reduce shipping costs and lower emissions from all vehicles.”

  • Korea's Largest Heat And Power Plant To Feature GE Technology

    GE has received contracts totaling more than $450 million to supply advanced technology equipment and services for the largest combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Korea. The deal closed in the second quarter of 2010. The 833-megawatt Oseong Combined-Cycle power plant currently under construction, is located in Pyeongtaek, about 60 kilometers south of Seoul, will help Korea meet a growing demand for heat, air conditioning and energy while also supporting the country’s emissions reduction targets.

    Manitowoc’s Crane Expo demonstration event held at the Shady Grove, Pa. facility marked the U.S. debut of the Grove GMK6300L all-terrain crane. This crane combines some of the strongest lift capabilities in its class with an extremely long 262 ft boom.

  • Siemens To Expand Transformer Service

    Siemens Energy held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building on the site of its transformer manufacturing plant in Nuremberg. With this investment totaling EUR14 million the Energy location will expand its world leadership in transformer technology. The new building covering an area of 2500 square meters will become a Service Center for Transformer Lifecycle Management (TLM) with operations focusing on Europe. Within the framework of TLM old power transformers of all ratings and brands will be repaired and overhauled, and made ready for further periods in service. Transformer operators will thus have an economic and technically interesting alternative for extending the lifecycle of their transformers. The Transformer Service Center in the new building is scheduled to start operations in July 2011.
