  • World’s Largest Mobile Crane Lifts Girder With Modulift Beam

    A Modulift spreader beam was used beneath the hook of the largest mobile crane manufactured in serial production in the world, at the Turcot Interchange, a three-level stack freeway project in Quebec, Canada.

    The MOD 110H beam, which can lift up to 170t at 11.5m (37 ft.), was used at its maximum 18m (59 ft.) in length, as the 1,200t capacity Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 was utilised with 194 ft. of main boom and 445,300 lbs. of counterweight to lift a girder into position. The crane was supplied by rental firm Guay Cranes and the rigging gear by Modulift’s Canadian distributor Equipment Corps Inc.

    Yanmar has undertaken development of underlying technologies for robotic boats and auto-docking, technologies that are expected to see service in operations in dangerous waters, maritime surveys, or smart fisheries.

    While development of autonomous vehicles for the road and the farm continues apace, maritime robotics technologies have yet to become established. With long established track record of R&D in various fields of robotics and IT, Yanmar has been working to meld the hardware side of its boatbuilding and recreational marine domains with basic development of underlying IT and robotics technologies, towards robotic boat technologies that can be used in the marine surveys and infrastructure inspection.

  • Rain, Sleet And Snow Couldn’t Keep World Of Asphalt Show & Conference And AGG1 Academy & Expo From Record-Setting Attendance Numbers

    Aggregates and asphalt industries were out in force at the record-setting World of Asphalt Show & Conference and AGG1 Academy & Expo, Feb. 12-14 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

    Attendance hit an all-time high with registered attendance at 10,063 – a 28-percent increase over the 2018 show held in Houston. Attendees came from all 50 states, with the home state of Indiana represented with over 1500 in attendance. International attendance also increased with all 10 Canadian provinces and 52 other countries worldwide- including delegations from Nigeria and Russia – coming for the world-class education and exhibit floor.  

    “It’s been a great show with a lot of interaction on the show floor and in the education sessions; this is where our industry comes together - competitors and peers, to prepare for future growth,” said Kevin Kelly, president of Walsh & Kelly and World of Asphalt 2019 chair.
