  • Volvo Group And Isuzu Motors Intend To Form Strategic Alliance

The Volvo Group and Isuzu Motors recently signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with the intent to form a strategic alliance within commercial vehicles in order to capture the opportunities in the ongoing transformation of the industry.

In a first step, the intention is to establish a global technology partnership and to create a stronger, combined heavy-duty truck business for Isuzu Motors and UD Trucks in Japan and across international markets. This will entail transferring ownership of the complete UD Trucks business globally from the Volvo Group to Isuzu Motors in order to accelerate growth by leveraging greater volumes and complementary capabilities. There is great complementarity between the two Groups from both a geographical and product line perspective, with further opportunities to be explored over time.

The enterprise value for the complete UD Trucks business is JPY 250 billion (approx. SEK 22 billion as per the end of November 2019) and will be subject to the final scope of the business transferred and Isuzu Motor’s due diligence. The transaction is expected to, at the time of closing, result in a positive impact on the Volvo Group’s operating income of approximately SEK 2 billion and increase the Volvo Group’s net cash position by approximately SEK 22 billion.

  • Fertilizer Canada Looks Forward To More 4R Certified Agri-Retail Facilities Across Ontario In 2020

Fertilizer Canada is pleased to celebrate yet another two sites that have successfully become 4R Certified in Ontario: FS PARTNERS Ayr and Sylvite Blenheim. Since the program's launch, there have been eight Ontario agri-retail facilities that have completed the 4R Certification audit and passed to become 4R Certified. FS PARTNERS Ayr and Sylvite Blenheim join FS PARTNERS Delhi and Drayton, AGRIS Co-operative Cottam and Stoney Point, Thompsons Kent Bridge, and Setterington's Cottam.

The 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification Program is a voluntary program that certifies nutrient service providers across Ontario that apply or make recommendations on fertilizers in accordance with 4R Nutrient Stewardship principles, using the Right Source @ Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place ®. Program participants must go through an independent, third-party audit of 37 standards to demonstrate they not only understand 4R principles, but also follow them.

"Fertilizer Canada congratulates all of our newly-certified 4R sites and their continued commitment to the growing number of service providers in Ontario becoming 4R Certified, providing the highest standard of nutrient management advice to their grower customers," said Garth Whyte, President & CEO of Fertilizer Canada. "The Certification process offers us the opportunity to capture acres managed under 4R Nutrient Stewardship, thus quantifying the industry's commitment to sustainable agriculture solutions."

  • BC Professional Truck Driver Gordon Price Named Canada’s 2019 National Driver of the Year

Gordon “Gord” Lynal Price, a Langley-based owner-operator, was named the 2019 Canadian Trucking Alliance/Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year at the annual Christmas Party of the British Columbia Trucking Association (BCTA) on December 5, 2019. Gord was chosen to receive this honour for a career in the trucking industry covering more than 32 years and over 4 million accident-free miles, as well as his willingness and ability to help others in need.

    Gordon Price, & Cassandra Tennant

Gord was previously awarded the 2018 BC Driver of the Year award at BCTA’s Annual Management Conference in Whistler in June 2018 and was chosen from among his peers across Canada for national recognition.

Gord grew up in the industry, learning to drive truck at the early age of 10 (he turned 50 this year), and his route has taken him from the ice roads up north through the lower 48 US states. Gord’s career has also included time as a driving instructor and safety trainer. He is gregarious, proactive and quick thinking, traits that served him and a fellow Vancouver Islander well very early one morning in March 2018 on the Island Highway, between Chemainus and Nanaimo, when he noticed something on the side of the road during a load haul. Realizing that what looked like a blanket was actually a person, Gord pulled over and called 911, then assisted Patricia Galloway, who he found unconscious at roadside. Another driver kept his lights on the area for safety, while Gord spoke with 911 operators and administered first aid until an ambulance arrived. Ms. Galloway had apparently suffered a minor stroke, and Gord’s decisive action in responding to her presence may well have saved her life. Gord was based in Nanaimo at the time and has since relocated to Langley.
