Battery Electric Freightliner Innovation Fleet Logs 300,000 Miles Of Real-World Use

Freightliner recently announced  that its Innovation Fleet has accumulated more than 300,000 miles in real-world use by customers. The Innovation Fleet is a 30-vehicle fleet of battery electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks testing integration of the technology into large-scale commercial transportation operations.
“Co-creation with our customers is a cornerstone of Freightliner’s unique approach to the market,” said Richard Howard, senior vice president, On-highway sales and marketing for DTNA. “The knowledge and expertise our logistics customers have in fleet operations with their thousands of trucks is invaluable as we design and engineer the zero emissions future of the commercial vehicle. Crossing the threshold of 300,000 miles of testing, then one million miles, then more - together - before we begin series production of battery electric trucks will ensure we deliver the performance and reliability our customers count on and which has made Freightliner the undisputed leader in commercial trucks.”
The Freightliner Innovation Fleet is supported by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) which focuses on improving air quality in the South Coast Basin of Southern California and partially funded the project. The fleet includes 10 eM2s and 20 eCascadias testing in a variety of applications, including drayage, regional and local delivery, food distribution, and parcel delivery. • Historic National Strategy for Women in Trades Released

Historic National Strategy for Women in Trades Released

In celebration of National Women’s History Month, the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF-FCA) is releasing a first-ever, National Strategy for Supporting Women in Trades.  In 2019, CAF-FCA led a task force of more than 60 skilled trades stakeholders who came together to guide and inform a strategy to create measurable change for women’s representation in skilled trades careers in Canada.  The industry driven strategy has four clear and measurable action items that are intended to generate awareness, trigger policy change, recognize best practices and create skilled trade workplace environments where women’s representation increases.
Task force member, Lindsay Amundsen, Director of Workforce Development at Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) states “The SWiT National Strategy has brought together groups and organizations doing the work to recruit and retain tradeswomen in the construction industry. And together, through identifying barriers and developing strategies for success, SWiT will help change the face of construction and increase diversity within our industry.”
According to the Statistics Canada Registered Apprenticeship Information System 2018 data, when apprentice registrations in the construction, manufacturing and transportation sectors were analyzed, women represented 4.5 per cent of apprentice registrations. The SWiT task force established a national target to increase participation and retention of women in skilled trades careers to 15% by 2030.
Another priority of the Strategy was to identify tactics to create respectful workplaces.  “CAF-FCA is committed to being a catalyst for diverse and inclusive workplaces.” says France Daviault, Executive Director of CAF-FCA.  “Under-represented groups including women, transgender, two-spirited, intersexed or gender non-binary have a fundamental right to a safe, healthy and equitable workplace, free of harassment, bullying, and discrimination.”  The SWITCANADA.CA web page provides links to tools to assist employers, unions, educators and tradeswomen in creating healthy, safe, and inclusive workplaces.
“The goal is to have best practices from across sectors available in one place. There is no need to recreate the wheel – there are some tried and tested tools out there that organizations are willing to share”, continues Daviault.
The strategy is a national movement and call for champions who commit to making a difference through a public pledge. The pledge requires that they share their internal numbers on the percentage of women apprentices and journeypersons they employ in skilled trades work annually. “Those who join the movement as champions by taking the #CHAMPIONS4CHANGE pledge are truly changemakers and leaders”, says Daviault. “They understand that numbers matter and aren’t afraid to be part of the discussion. We are beyond rhetoric as the number hasn’t increased in years. It’s time to be bold by holding industry accountable for the numbers”.

  • Mack Trucks Donates Proceeds From Pink Mack Anthem Diecast Sales

Mack Trucks Donates Proceeds From Pink Mack Anthem Diecast Sales
Mack Trucks announced a $10,000 donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), with a goal to contribute another $25,000, from the proceeds of the sales of a limited edition pink Mack Anthem diecast model.

Mack Trucks has announced a multiyear partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) that will see Mack donate proceeds from the sales of a limited edition production run of pink Mack Anthem diecast models. Mack made an initial donation of $10,000 to NBCF, and will contribute up to $25,000 more over the next two years as sales of the unique diecast models continue.
Mack chose to make the announcement during the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual effort to increase awareness of one of the most common cancers among women in the U.S. Mack is also once again displaying the “Pink Lady,” a real, pink-painted Mack Anthem model, in front of Mack World Headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina.
“We at Mack are committed to raising awareness of breast cancer and organizations like NBCF that support those affected by the disease,” said Martin Weissburg, president, Mack Trucks. “We’ve displayed a pink Mack truck in front of our headquarters each October for many years, and we’re thrilled to be able to take it a step further with this partnership and the donation of proceeds from sales of the diecast.”
The unique diecast model was inspired by the “Pink Lady” Mack Anthem. When it was first introduced, response to the truck was overwhelming, with many requests for a diecast model of the truck. Mack’s merchandising team set out to develop a limited edition run of the pink diecasts, but didn’t want it to simply be another item available at the Mack Shop.
Holding a special meaning to so many people, Mack sought a unique way to highlight the availability of the diecast, and partnering with NBCF presented an outstanding opportunity to make an impact.
Founded in 1991, NBCF’s mission is to help women now by providing help and inspiring hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education and support services. NBCF offers free, innovative programs that other organizations aren’t providing to women facing breast cancer so that no one faces breast cancer alone.
“National Breast Cancer Foundation delivers help and inspires hope for women affected by breast cancer and those who love them,” said Ken Ramirez, NBCF senior vice president of strategic partnerships. “The pink Mack Anthem diecast model is a wonderful example of the fun, inspirational ways partners like Mack Trucks can rally around the cause and make a significant difference. NBCF is extremely grateful for the generous support and for helping us Help Women Now.”
Featuring diecast metal construction with an opening hood and doors, the pink Mack Anthem is a great addition for collectors and those wishing to support the fight against breast cancer. Built to a 1:50 scale, the truck has authentic engine details, an accurately detailed cab interior and a pivoting fifth-wheel plate. Also included is a detachable trailer with the phrase ‘Hit Cancer like a Mack Truck.’
The pink Mack Anthem diecast is available for purchase at www.mackshop.com, item number M1217. Supplies are limited.

  • Volvo CE Adopts Clean Product Branding As Part Of Award-Winning Design Philosophy

Volvo CE Adopts Clean Product Branding As Part Of Award-Winning Design Philosophy

This simple switch to shorter and less complicated product names represents Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) much wider ambition to look beyond the product to a more holistic site overview. Designed to fit more closely with the brand’s premium look and feel, this new design philosophy and designation policy have already won the prestigious 2020 Red Dot Product Design Award.
Rolling out from this month, new and updated Volvo branded products will now be tagged with just the product type and size on its side – and nothing else. All other product details, such as model series and model variant, will continue to be found on the specifications, brochure or PIN plate, ensuring customers will see no change in how they buy service or order parts for their products.
The real motivation behind this change is to bring the product’s branding in line with the company’s minimalist Scandinavian heritage and long-standing desire for a clean, clear and boundless human-centric design.
